'Aladdin' Grammy Spot Offers a First Look at Will Smith’s Blue Genie Look
The Disney remake will premiere on May 24.
During the 61st Grammy Awards, Disney aired a special TV spot for the highly-anticipated Aladdin live-action remake. In the new teaser trailer, Aladdin (played by newcomer Mena Massoud) ventures into the forbidden Cave of Wonders after being ordered by Jafar to bring him the magic lamp.
While we previously saw Will Smith as the all-powerful Genie on an Entertainment Weekly cover, the clip offers a first look at the character in its blue and larger-than-life form. Naomi Scott, who is cast as Princess Jasmine in the upcoming film, also makes an appearance in the short video.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin is slated to hit the silver screen on May 24. The movie will be one of the three remakes Disney has planned for 2019, which also include Dumbo (March 29) as well as The Lion King (July 19). The fourth installment of the beloved Toy Story series will also premiere this year on June 21, while Frozen 2 will hit theaters on November 22.
