Netflix Announces Christian Serratos Will Play Selena in Upcoming Mini-Series
The Quintanilla family plays a major part in making this project come to life.
Back in December, Netflix green-lighted a scripted series about Selena Quintanilla, the global Mexican-American pop singer who captured the hearts of many. Now, The Hollywood Reporter shares that an official star of the mini-series has been found: Christian Serratos. The Walking Dead actress is currently in negotiations to take the top role of the show.
A previous report from Deadline noted the show dubbed Selena: The Series would be a “coming-of-age story” highlighting Selena’s dreams, realities and the choices her family makes throughout her career. The project is being developed alongside and executive produced by The Quintanilla family. In a previously released trailer “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” one of Selena’s most iconic songs is referenced.
In 1980, Selena launched her music career and years later, she would go on to win a Grammy for best Mexican/American album in 1994. She currently ranks as the best-selling female artist in Latin music history. She has sold over 65 million albums worldwide. Her untimely death at the hands of her best friend who was also the manager of her fan club in 1995 shook the world. Deadline reports that Yolanda Saldivar “was convicted of murder and is currently serving a life sentence.”
Stay tuned here as more news emerge on Selena: The Series. At the moment, there is no official release date.
