A Backstage Look at 1017 ALYX 9SM's FW20 Show at Paris Fashion Week Men's

To simply say that Matthew M. Williams closed down Paris Fashion Week Men’s with his 1017 ALYX 9SM‘s FW20 Show would be an understatement. The final show of the Fall 2020 menswear season was versatile, progressive, full of feeling and zeal, and most important, a successful juggle of traditional luxury motifs with freer modes of expression through fashion. Each look was evidently donning the ALYX tag whilst also covertly raising its bar, little by little.
The models enlisted for the show included those considered celebrities, those considered progressive – even in today’s day and age – and those considered classically ‘catwalk’. The variety was appreciated. Gender-neutral looks within this menswear collection were worn by both men and women, a big conversation-starter right now being Bella Hadid‘s androgynous runway fit: biker jacket over a white shirt paired with a black tie.
Other looks demonstrated Williams’ expertise within the realm of technical design, in the possibilities of the imagination even within the seemingly rigid ideas of form and utilitarian design. For the designer, the pure, honed-in artisanal technique can give any classically tailored suit or overcoat a decorative quirk. Additional nuances worth mentioning include sparkling Western applications on denim materials as well as leathers, animal prints varying from croc-skin to ostrich-effect, heavy buckles placed upon a selection of footwear silhouettes and the wonderful touch of glimmering hair accessories, worn by each and every model sauntering down that runway.
