Featuring the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star, along with a hoodie and bucket hat.
As part of its ongoing commitment to support Black creatives, Converse has tapped UNION LOS ANGELES and New York-based interior designer Sheila Bridges to help conceptualize its latest collection. Known for her distinct furnishing approach, the collaborative range boasts Bridges’ iconic visual called the “Harlem Toile” that celebrates the African-American culture in her hometown.
For those who aren’t familiar, the term “toile” is short for “toile de Jouy,” which “is a printed material with a floral, figure or landscape design, typically seen in upholstery,” according to a press release. “I didn’t ever see myself represented in any of the designs, so I created my own,” Bridges stated. Featuring tiny figures jumping rope, playing basketball, dancing and having picnics, all dressed in 18th-century attire, the graphics have been incorporated onto the footwear brand’s signature Chuck Taylor All Star, a pullover hoodie and a bucket hat.
