Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse Detail Black Lives Matter Donations

Revealing the first round of organizations set to receive grants.

Back in June, Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse announced a $40 million USD donation to the Black community in the U.S. for the next four years. Additionally, Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand committed an extra $100 million USD to help fight systemic racism for the next 10 years. Now the sportswear giant has unveiled the first round of partners who will be receiving the grants.

As part of NIKE, Inc.’s $40 million USD commitment, $1 million USD will be allocated each to the NAACP Empowerment Programs, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) and Black Girls CODE. These national organizations are dedicated to dismantling systemic racism and making a long-lasting change within the community.

Jordan Brand’s generous donation will focus on three specific areas: social justice, economic justice, and education and awareness. Michael Jordan said in an official statement:

“I’m all in with Jordan Brand, the Jordan family and our partners, who share a commitment to address the historical inequality that continues to plague Black communities in the United States. There is a long history of oppression against Black Americans that holds us back from full participation in American society. We understand that one of the main ways we can change systemic racism is at the polls. We know it will take time for us to create the change we want to see, but we are working quickly to take action for the Black community’s voice to be heard.”

The two partners that will receive $1 million USD each are NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) and the Formerly Incarcerated & Convicted People and Families Movement (FICPFM), while $500,000 USD will be donated to Black Voters Matter. All three organizations are committed to combating Black voter suppression. On top of that, additional grants will be given to the existing Jordan Wings Program, which aids today’s Black youth through education, mentorship and opportunity.

Stay tuned while we wait for Nike to reveal the next round of partners. In the meantime, head on over to the brand’s official website for more details on its initiative.
