Vanessa Bryant, Beyoncé, Michael Jordan and More Pay Tribute to the Late Kobe and Gianna Bryant
“May you both rest in peace and have fun in Heaven until we meet again one day.”
The whole world mourned when news broke that Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers lost their lives in a fatal helicopter crash on January 26. Numerous tributes have taken place across the globe as Kobe’s legacy and Mamba mentality have made a huge impact on his family, friends and fans.
On February 24, the city of LA held the “Kobe Bryant Memorial: A Celebration of Life for Kobe and Gianna Bryant” at the Staples Center in honor of all the lives lost on that tragic day. Beyoncé opened the service with a moving rendition of Kobe’s favorite songs “XO” and “Halo,” along with a full choir and band. Following Beyoncé was Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys who also performed tribute songs for the Black Mamba and Mambacita.
Vanessa Bryant delivered a heartfelt eulogy to her late husband and daughter, talking about their triumphs, success and what she’ll miss most about them both. Her emotional speech ended with: “Babe, you take care of our Gigi. And I got Nani, Bibi and Coco. We’re still the best team. We love and miss you, Boo-Boo and Gigi. May you both rest in peace and have fun in Heaven until we meet again one day. We love you both, and miss you, forever and always. Mommy.”
