Yelp Joins The 15-Percent Pledge
Dedicating its resources to highlighting and supporting Black-owned businesses.
Yelp has just announced that it has joined the 15% Pledge, the organization calling on retailers and stockists to dedicate 15% of shelf space to Black-owned businesses founded by Aurora James as a result of the Black Lives Matter protests this year.
Other brands that have joined include Sephora and Vogue, and although Yelp isn’t classified as a traditional retailer, the platform will be utilizing its unique position to give smaller, Black-owned businesses more power and recognition. Yelp has also seen a 6,520% increase in searches for Black-owned businesses this year (compared to this time last year), proving that users remain committed to supporting and choosing smaller labels with better values.
Yelp previously added a search tool feature allowing users to search specifically for Black-owned businesses, and will continue its support for underrepresented communities through upcoming products and partnerships. Learn more about Yelp’s initiative here, and visit the 15% Pledge website here.
