Yelp Adds New Search Tool Highlighting Black-Owned Businesses
As well as donations to NAACP and The Equal Justice Initiative.
Yelp has just revealed upcoming plans for the introduction of a new tool, allowing business to identify as Black-owned. Announced by CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, the new function helps users search for Black-owned businesses specifically, and comes after the Black Lives Matter movement has spiked the increase in similar searches across multiple industries over the past few days.
In addition to the new tool, Yelp will also be donating $500,000 USD to the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, as well as doubling its pledge to match donations from employees to Black-serving and Black-led organizations throughout the month. Lastly, Stoppelman also added that the company will be providing additional paid mental health days and organizing virtual events to support the company’s POC employees.
The function is set to release on Yelp within the next two weeks. In case you missed it, Nike’s CEO has penned a letter to employees to tackle racism within the company.
