Matthew Williams Taps Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and More for Givenchy SS21 Campaign
“My ethos is about the luxury of infusing clothes with your own personality, not being worn by them.”
Givenchy has just revealed the first images from its Spring/Summer 2021 campaign, under the direction of Matthew Williams. The house’s new creative director debuted his first collection last year, and has enlisted a handful of friends and creatives to star in his first campaign for Givenchy, including Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Anok Yai and Playboy Carti.
Lensed by Korean-born German photographer Heji Shin, the campaign captures key pieces from the collection, including Bella’s nude dress with an open back and silver embellishments, as well as and Carti’s mesh tanktops. Each portrait is inspired by the vintage ’90s-era, using grainy and colorful backgrounds to enhance the subject. “To me, fashion expresses a point of view where formality and informality, construction and comfort co-exist. My ethos is about the luxury of infusing clothes with your own personality, not being worn by them. In each of these portraits, a strong character wears a look that reflects who they are: they’re the ones who bring the clothes to life,” said Williams on the campaign.
Of course, we’re seeing some of the season’s key accessories, including the new Antigona crossbody bag, the Cut Out bag as well as the “three-toed” sandals that caused a lot of conversation following the collection’s debut. We’re also seeing a focus on heavy jewelry, including Kendall Jenner’s thick gold necklace and Anok Yai’s gold earrings.
