You Can Now Add Pronouns to Your Instagram Profile

Users can choose from a pre-approved list created with consultation from LGBTQ+ organizations.

Instagram has introduced a new feature that lets users add their preferred pronouns to their profiles as a means to specify their gender identities.

Through the latest update, the social media app’s users can select up to four pronouns chosen from a pre-approved list created with consultation from LGBTQ+ organizations The Trevor Project, GLAAD and PFLAG. Those who choose to display this information can make it publicly available or viewable for their followers only, with users under 18 required to opt for the latter by default. To add your pronouns to your profile, all you need to do is click the “Edit Profile” button, then tap on “Pronouns.” The screen will allow users to type in and select their preferred pronouns.

As of now, the feature is available across the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia, although the tech company has mentioned that it plans to make it available in more regions. See the full list of pronouns available below.
