"Movie Lips" Is TikTok’s Most Romantic Makeup Trend for the Fall

Film in pop culture has often served as an escape from everyday life or fuel for the latest beauty trends. It is no surprise that TikTok has brought to life the ideation of “movie lips,” paying homage to the pout of our favorite flick starlets.
“Movie lips” are faint and diffused, offering a natural, just-kissed look. It is in the mind of when stars are aggressively kissed in a film with a bit of lip stain or lipstick pulled away from their lips. Created by Kat James of Shine Beauty Malibu, she explains in a clip that one of the prime examples of the trend is Keira Knightley‘s flushed lips in Pride & Prejudice. However, James did note that “the problem with movie lips is it is impossible to recreate because it’s usually a mixture of colors,” as no one is entirely sure of what makeup artists use on set, from lip balms, lip liners and lipsticks.
To achieve the look, James mentions that Saie Beauty’s Lip Blur is the closest product to attaining movie lips. She gently taps the Lip Blur onto her lips and presses it in with her fingers until it’s buffed and diffused over her lips. However, it’s all in the technique. If you follow the instructions laid out in the clips below, you can use any lip gloss or liner to arrive at your desired diffused effect.
