Everything You Need to Know About Salomon and RANRA's First-Ever Collaboration

The partnership brings a refreshed, sustainable essence to Salomon’s Cross Pro model.

Cult-loved sportstyle brand Salomon has tapped Reykjavík-based design studio RANRA to release a footwear collaboration just in time for the Fall/Winter 2022 season. The release implements RANRA’s approach to sustainable practices and quality craftsmanship within Salomon’s performance-led DNA.

The long-awaited collaboration reimagines Salomon’s Cross Pro model, with an emphasis on raw material choices and artisanal plant dyeing processes. The sustainability-driven silhouette ensures high-level performance while utilizing natural rubber, cork and leather combined with a water-repellent Ventile cotton canvas.

In a bid to stay true to RANRA’s heritage, the ultra-grippy Cross Pro uppers are dyed using Icelandic Elftingar (Equisetum), harvested by hand in Iceland, prepared through traditional processes and hand dyed by the design team in small batches to achieve rich variations in shade and texture.

The shoe arrives in two muted color iterations, sporting the distinct hues of the natural dye process. Elsewhere, RANRA strips back conventional production techniques by removing the use of glues and adhesives, commonly found within performance footwear, in favor of traditional shoemaking construction methods.

The campaign, lensed by Theo Sion, showcases the silhouette in a series of surreal scenarios responding to the elements of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. In addition, a series of instructional “how to” videos provide transparency into RANRA’s unique plant dye process.

Take a look at the campaign above. The RANRA and Salomon collaboration will be available on Salomon’s website and select retailers on November 3.
