Ever since Elon Musk became the newest owner of Twitter, changes to the social media platform have been made, including the option to become verified. Previously, only notable public figures such as celebrities, brands, artists, politicians, authors, writers, journalists, etc., were verified, but now, if you subscribe to Twitter Blue by paying a monthly fee of $7.99 USD, you can get a verified check mark on your profile. The latest update also allows Twitter users to tell the difference between public figures and Twitter Blue verified accounts.

If you visit someone’s page and they have a verified account, click on the check mark to see their status. If they’re verified because they’re a notable public figure, the following message will show up: “This account is verified because it’s notable in government, news, entertainment or another designated category.”

However, if the person behind the account is not a public figure, but they have a verified check mark through Twitter Blue, the following message will pop up once you click on their check mark: “This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue.”

It remains unknown if Twitter’s verified profiles will change as the platform is currently undergoing lots of modifications. “Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months,” Musk recently tweeted. “We will keep what works & change what doesn’t.”
