Watch the New Trailer for the Upcoming Whitney Houston Biopic 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'
Premiering on December 23.
The second trailer for I Wanna Dance With Somebody has been released, and it gives a closer look into the struggles Whitney Houston, played by Naomi Ackie, faces on her rise to fame.
The preview begins with Whitney at a Madison Square Garden concert before it quickly cuts to a scene of her being criticized for her identity as a Black woman in music. During a radio interview, the host tells her, “Common criticism of you … You music isn’t Black enough.” Whitney responds, “Well, who said that? That’s just bull. And it makes me angry actually … My whole life … ‘She ain’t Black enough, she ain’t white enough.’ Well, how about she ain’t obedient enough? How about she ain’t fearful enough?”
She adds, “Music isn’t a color to me. It has no boundaries. I sing what I want to sing, be how I want to be.”
The trailer continues, showing prominent moments in Houston’s career and personal life.
