$150,000 USD Worth of Antique Props Stolen From 'The Crown' Set
Around 350 pieces were taken.
Netflix has revealed that about $150,000 USD worth of antique props were stolen from The Crown set.
According to E! News, the robbery took place on February 16. “It is reported that three vehicles containing props used in film and TV were broken into and a number of items taken,” a South Yorkshire Police Department spokesperson said. “Officers investigated the incident but all existing lines of enquiry have now been exhausted. If anything were to come to light such as the items appearing somewhere then of course this investigation would be picked up again.”
Amid filming Season 5, Netflix has reassured fans that the recent theft will not affect the show. ”We can confirm the antiques have been stolen and we hope that they are found and returned safely,” a Netflix representative told E! News. “Replacements will be sourced, there is no expectation that filming will be held up.”
The Crown set decorator Alison Harvey commented on the value of the stolen items and mentioned that the thieves might not be so pleased with what they have. “The items stolen are not necessarily in the best condition and therefore of limited value for resale,” Harvey explained, adding, “However, they are valuable as pieces to the U.K. film industry.”
Around 350 pieces were taken, including a replica of the 1897 Imperial Coronation coach egg by Fabergé, 12 sets of silver candelabra and seven gold candelabra, a clock face of a William IV grandfather clock and St Louis gilt Crystal glassware, as per Antique Trades Gazette.
Season 5 of The Crown will premiere on Netflix this coming November.
