Embracing Imperfect Skin Might Be 2022's Biggest Makeup Trend
We’re all about “lived-in” skin.
“Skin-first” beauty is a continuing conversation amongst skincare lovers and makeup professionals. Dark circles, a sheer layer of skin tint or concealer used as a foundation have always been the standard for those who adhere to the low-maintenance French girl beauty philosophy. Now, universally, dewy skin and day-old bed makeup are trending, as “lived-in” skin is shaping up to be the hottest beauty trend of 2022.
“This year continues to be about complexion and ‘perfectly imperfect skin.’ Whether you want to amp up the dew or put your own spin on the satin-skin trend, aim for an easy, lived-in makeup look,” makeup artist Allie Smith says to Popsugar.
Long gone are days when the need for concealer hacks, overemphasized bronzer and overall heavy makeup application rule beauty trends. This season, we’re seeing and embracing the change of beauty codes that allow people to enhance their natural beauty in an uncomplicated way. Popular brands like YSL Beauty and NARS are leading the minimal makeup charge with their vast offerings catered to that “barely there” or worn look.
Light, natural mascara, concealer applied in problem areas, as well as skin tint used to cover those unwanted blemishes are all it takes to achieve that “fresh face” or “fresh-out-of-bed” appeal. Perfectionism is no longer sought after. “Use everything you want to express how you feel — if you feel moody or you want to be strong. You don’t have to be perfect,” French model Hélène Diap said to Vogue.
