Beauty of Joseon's Newest Sunscreen Might Be Its Best One Yet

Our honest review of the brand’s Tinted Mineral Dayscreen.

By now, we all know that SPF is an essential step in our daytime skincare routines. However, with a little trial and error it’s clear to see that not all sunscreens are made equal. While some pill under your makeup and others leave behind that infamous white cast, the search for the perfect formula can feel never-ending.

Personally, I’ve always been told that K-beauty sunscreens are superior to their Western counterparts. Since a 16 hour flight to Seoul is a bit out of reach for me, I’ve learned to make do with the Korean SPF products available here in New York City. Among the many, Beauty of Joseon’s lightweight formulas have become a favorite among American skincare fans for their silky texture and seamless blendability. While the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen and Day Dew Suncreen were once a staple in my daily routine, I dropped everything when I heard about the new Tinted Mineral Dayscreen.

Why The Hype?

For anyone that struggles with completing a multi-step skincare routine in the morning, a tinted SPF is key to simplifying the process. For Beauty of Joseon’s Tinted Mineral Dayscreen in particular, it is said to deliver up to 12 hours of hydration and pore-blurring effects — all while protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. Essentially, it delivers both skincare and makeup benefits, all while being acne-prone and sensitive skin safe.

How To Use

After moisturizer, I use the Tinted Mineral Dayscreen as the first step in my makeup routine. However unlike a normal SPF moisturizer, it’s best to apply it with a brush or sponge for even coverage. Just like your usual foundation, apply the product all over your face, concentrating on the spots most vulnerable to sun exposure: your nose bridge, forehead and cheekbones. Once it’s sufficiently blended, I apply my concealer and the rest of my products over top as normal.

An Honest Review

As a big fan of the brand’s Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen, I was honestly surprised by the coverage of the Tinted Mineral Dayscreen. Although it’s described as “buildable,” I would personally classify it as medium coverage. I typically frequent sheer skin tints in my daily rotation, but I do appreciate the possibility of both heavier coverage and SPF protection in a single step. That being said, finding the right shade for my skin tone was pretty difficult. I’m universally medium netural, and it feels like most of the shades pulled too warm on me. If Beauty of Joseon were to expand the shade range down the line, I think adding cool-toned shades beyond fair would be the way to go.

Like the rest of the brand’s sunscreens, application was extremely straightforward and it didn’t leave behind any patchiness. In combination with my other makeup products, it acted just like a normal foundation would. When it comes to how it feels on the skin, I found the formula to be extremely breathable and lightweight — which is honestly surprising for how high coverage it is. I barely noticed it on my skin throughout the day and thankfully it didn’t oxidize any further.

The Final Verdict

If you struggle with uneven skin tone and need further incentive to use SPF, Beauty of Joseon’s Tinted Mineral Dayscreen will be your new staple. Although you might find it a little difficult to pick a shade if you’re cool-toned and any deeper than fair, it’s otherwise lightweight, easy-to-use and above all else, an easy way to protect your skin from the sun. For fans of sheer coverage, it might be better suited for days when you’re looking for something a little extra, although it’s still a nice addition to any makeup kit.
