HBO Max Unveils Official Trailer for 'Julia'
Inspired by Julia Child’s life and her long-running television series, ‘The French Chef.’
HBO Max has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming comedy TV show, Julia.
Inspired by the life of Julia Child (played by Sarah Lancashire), the series explores the intersection between her long-running program, The French Chef, and the emergence of public television as a new social institution. During a time when gender roles were difficult to subvert, the protagonist is headstrong about hosting an educational cooking show, where she defies the broadcast network in question. It claimed that she lacked a “camera-friendly look” and a pleasant voice. “One of the advantages of looking like me is that you learn at a young age how not to take no for an answer,” Julia says in the visual.
The series also follows Julia’s marriage that is imbued with a shifting power dynamic. Her husband, Paul Child (David Hyde Pierce), is unhappy about the television host’s rise in stardom, to which he comments: “I suppose I’ll have to get used to sharing you. Everyone wants you.”
