Nike Unveils Its X2 World Cup Federation Fashion Collabs
Linking up with Jacquemus, Palace, NOCTA and more for the summer.
Over the years, the World Cup has quickly become one of sport’s biggest fashion shows. Jerseys that perform just as well on the street as they do on the pitch, lifestyle collections for the die-hard fans and retro remakes for the nostalgic ones: every four years, soccer goes into fashion overload, and this summer Nike is doing the heavy lifting.
Giving seven of its biggest federations a stylish send-off ahead of the tournament, Nike brought some of fashion’s greatest contemporary visionaries to the beautiful game. Pairing designers and collectives with their country of origin, the X2 collections hit close to home.
More than just a fashion exhibition, each federation is also teaming up with a community organization shaping the future of youth sport in their country, with a special collaborative jersey launching with every drop. It doesn’t stop at just kits, though. Each nation gets a limited-edition Cryoshot sneaker, taking inspiration from archival football boots.
The Swoosh has done it again, and these collabs are already all-timers. Keep scrolling to see the full collections.
France x Jacquemus x Sport dans la Ville
Starting with a blockbuster collaboration, Nike tapped Simon Porte Jacquemus to dress Les Bleus and their fans for another highly-anticipated showing on the biggest stage. Mixing the country’s iconic tricolor sportswear with Jacquemus’ signature Sud de France aesthetic, the collection is full of stripes and pops of blue, red and white.
England x Palace x Football Beyond Borders
When England’s Marcus Rashford teased the Palace collaboration a few months ago, the hype around this collection went through the roof. It’s safe to say that the duo lived up to it. Blending English history with streetwear, the collection includes nods to the country’s patron St. George through crosses, stained glass designs and a classic Three Lions color palette.
Canada x NOCTA x Canadian Women & Sport
When it comes to Canada, there was only one brand for the job. Drake’s Nike offshoot NOCTA gave Les Rouges one of the best collaborations we’ve seen in a while. Taking the signature red palette of the North and building an essential capsule wardrobe from it, NOCTA’s take on the country is full streetwear, from tracksuits and tees to bold, yellow sneakers.
South Korea x PEACEMINUSONE x We Meet Up
Coinciding with the brand’s 10th anniversary, frequent Nike collaborator PEACEMINUSONE got the call-up for South Korea. The collection is bright and joyful, with painted daisies printed on windbreakers and oversized knit scarves. All about the layering, a short-sleeved button-down is one of the standouts from this collab.
Nigeria x Slawn x Bravehearts Ladies Foundation
Nigeria might not be playing at the World Cup this summer, but as one of Nike’s most fashionable teams, it was impossible to leave the Super Eagles out. Opting for a more unique collaboration than the others, British-Nigerian artist Slawn brought his vision to life on Nike’s sartorial canvas. The collection is busy, vibrant and abstract in green and white — a perfect reflection of Slawn’s artwork from a sportswear perspective.
Netherlands x Patta x Favela Street
The Netherlands’ orange wave is coming from Patta this summer, and this partnership couldn’t be more perfect. Flaming orange against a black backdrop with lion, rose and chain motifs catch the eye, but the main star of this collection is the Cryoshot Mercurial Vapor R9. Reimagining one of Nike’s most iconic boot silhouettes in silver, black and orange for the Dutch, this collab is a ten out of ten.
United States x Virgil Abloh Archive x Coalitions for Sport Equity
Last but certainly not least, the United States got a special delivery from Virgil Abloh Archive. Creating a rugby shirt that draws on some of the late designer’s signature codes, The Stars and Stripes are putting their best foot forward this summer. Varsity-inspired graphics cover the entire shirt, and on the Cryoshots, “air” nods to Abloh’s Off-White partnership with Nike.
The X2 collections will be available to purchase starting June 11 via each brand and federations, with a global release on the Nike website starting June 16.
In other news, Martine Rose dropped new Nike Shox MR4 colorways.
