Jennifer Lopez Says 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show With Shakira Was the "Worst Idea"
“If it was going to be a double-headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve done.”
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira delivered an unforgettable Super Bowl Halftime show in 2020, however, in JLo’s new Netflix documentary Halftime, the star has revealed that the performance was “the worst idea in the world.”
“We have six f–king minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it, we’ve got five left. But, there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a dance f–king revue. We have to sing our message,” Lopez tells music director Kim Burse. “If it was going to be a double-headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve f–king done,” she added.
In another interview for her documentary, the singer shares her thoughts with manager Benny Medina on the NFL’s choice to have two global superstars take the stage. ”Typically, you have one headliner at a Super Bowl. That headliner constructs a show, and, should they choose to have other guests, that’s their choice,” Medina explains. “It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.”
While her frustrations were directed at the Super Bowl, fans of Shakira have been interpreting Lopez’s comments in another way. “Shakira was never bigger than JLo EVER in her career and I Love Shakira,” one user tweeted. “JLo is like NFL Football. Shakira is like soccer football,” another clapped back.
With the internet divided, neither artist has commented on the issue as of writing. Stay tuned while we wait for more details to surface.
