Rebel Wilson's Relationship Was Almost Exposed by an Australian Newspaper
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star was given two days to comment on her own story.
Last week, Rebel Wilson revealed to the world her new romance with LA leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma. However, there’s more to the Pitch Perfect actor’s coming-out story than you think.
According to private columnist Andrew Hornery, Wilson was given “two days to comment on her new relationship” by the Sydney Morning Herald before they could “[publish] a single word.” “Big mistake. Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new ‘Disney Princess’ on Instagram early Friday morning,” Hornery said. ”Considering how bitterly Wilson had complained about poor journalism standards when she successfully sued Woman’s Day for defamation, her choice to ignore our discreet, genuine and honest queries was, in our view, underwhelming,” he added.
At the beginning of the piece, Hornery started it off with, “‘outing’ same-sex celebrity relationships should be a redundant concept in 2022,” causing major backlash from the LGBTQ+ community and Wilson’s fans. ”Let me get this straight. @AndrewHornery @smh wanted to out Rebel Wilson and then threw a tantrum when she did it on her own terms,” one user tweeted. “What the f–k. so f–ked up. How is this s–t still happening in 2022?” “It’s pretty clear that Rebel Wilson was forced to come out, likely earlier than she wanted to. This sort of outing used to happen a lot in the 80s and early 90s. It was atrocious then, and atrocious now,” another said.
Responding to journalist Kate Doak on Twitter who showed her support for the actor, Wilson addressed the situation saying, “Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace.”
