Miaou's Paris Fashion Week Debut Marks a New Era for the Corset-Based Brand

“It’s a feeling. It’s punk. It’s irreverent,” says the brand’s founder, Alexia Elkaim.

Cult label Miaou‘s Spring Summer 2023 collection marked a new era for the brand. Typically based between Los Angeles and Paris, this season saw founder Alexia Elkaim bring things to Paris Fashion Week for the very first time in its 6-year history.

Drawing inspiration from “free-flowing, sensual curves,” the collection was showcased as an immersive experience, infused with Miaou’s bodacious DNA. Offering over 35 new styles, SS23 presented a range of corsets and dresses alongside new top and bottom categories. Debuting new fabrics like raw denim, gabardine and silk, the collection aimed to offer a new level of quality and design.

Speaking about the significance of the corset and the introduction of thongs and nipple piercings into the collection, Miaou’s founder Alexia Elkaim describes it as, “It’s a feeling. It’s punk, it’s irreverent, it’s Miaou.” On her favorite pieces from the new collection, Elkaim adds “We made this new vest corset that I’m really excited about. That set, with the baggy jeans, it’s so easy to wear and it really resonated with me.”

SS23 steered away somewhat from Miaou’s signature graphics and prints, an intentional decision according to Elkaim. “I wanted to keep it really clean and sometimes prints can confuse things. For my first runway show in Paris, I really wanted to keep it focused and experiment with using more solid (colors).

Following the SS23 debut, Miaou’s new collection will be made available to shop in part, at the brand’s Paris pop-up, located in the Marais.
