What Went Down at McQueen's Return to London Fashion Week

After nearly 25 years, McQueen returned to London Fashion Week under the helm of Seán McGirr. Drawing directly from the city’s street level countercultures, historical contrast and nightlife energy, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection balances ethereal craftsmanship with rigid urban shapes, framing the runway around sharp structural lines and unexpected textile treatments.

The showcase was staged in Lincoln’s Inn Chapel and attended by the likes of Emilia Clarke, Alexa Chung, Salma Hayek and Lila Moss. The venue was dressed in a dark and smoky environment as a live choir, Shard Voices, sang in the background between the chapel’s pillars.
As a masterclass in dark romanticism, the collection leans heavily into tactile contrasts, pairing delicate smoked tulle alongside acid floral motifs printed across reflective glass organza. High-gloss lacquered satin sits against structured leather harnesses, while nocturnal jacquard weaves gradually dissolve into weightless, sheer organza hemline treatments. The color palette shifts between subdued tones borrowed from classical religious portraiture and washed-out neon shades pulled from underground raves.
Tailoring anchors the range with extreme, architectural proportions. Sharp “angel wing” jackets contrast with elongated, strict suits. Partnering with Savile Row institution Huntsman, the house crafted three bespoke menswear looks built with heritage British wools, exaggerated shoulder lines, and high, tight waistlines. Completing the hardware elements, long-term collaborator and master jeweller Shaun Leane returned to create handcrafted body adornment in recycled silver, alongside revived archival headpieces from 1998 and 2004.
