Opening New York Fashion Week, creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez showcased their Spring/Summer 2023 collection for Proenza Schouler. With a display of sensual tactile textures, knitwear and ruffles, the label’s latest lineup is designed to embody a sense of freedom inherent to a summer well lived.
The show notes described the collection as an unabashed cacophony of spirit, of joy, of the sensual and tactile qualities that bring pleasure to life. Classifying water as a symbol of life, the label intersects it with the designers’ deep-rooted personal histories to create a narrative that is effervescent and urban.
A mélange of neutral tones is punctuated with bright shades such as chartreuse and mint, taking in the forms of midi skirts, sleek coats, shrunken cardigans and dresses. The brand’s play on tactile textures like the elasticated terry tweed, glossy techno leather, molded lace, and metallic hand crochet vivified the lineup, producing a series of standout pieces.
It also gave way for Hernandez to honor his Latin roots, tailoring his culture’s traditional silhouettes to the lineup. Notable designs include bell bottoms that can be seen on jumpsuits and trousers, as well as the flamenco ruffles that made an appearance on one of its evening dresses. Elsewhere, the runway also brings together new-generation supermodels like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Selena Forrest and more.
