Conner Ives SS27 Wants Fashion To Be Fun Again
Making his New York Fashion Week debut.
Over the last decade of showing in London, Conner Ives has become a familiar and loved name on the schedule, particularly after his now-iconic “Protect the Dolls” slogan tee. Now, he shows his homecoming collection, making his debut at New York Fashion Week.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Conner Ives makes a case for flamboyance, color and the simple joy of putting on a really good show. Titled “It’s Great to Be Home,” the collection is a celebration of Ives’ return to America after years spent across the pond. Framed as a “tale of two cities,” the designer looks back at the places that shaped him, the places he’s returned to and the flamboyant kid who always loved dressing up.
The result is a collection that refuses to take itself too seriously. Inspired by the theatricality of a matador dancing with a bull, Ives brings a sense of movement, drama and performance to the runway, while everyday objects are given unexpected new lives, think dinner napkins repurposed as headscarves and hand-painted fish skins treated as the next frontier of exotic materials. It also wouldn’t be a Conner Ives show without some serious star power, counting Lila Moss, Iris Law, Osman Ahmed, Lottie Moss, and Grace Burns on the runway.
Color takes centre stage, used almost as a form of shock therapy, while the collection’s maximalist spirit embraces fashion’s supposedly dirty word: flamboyance. But beneath the spectacle is a more personal question: why are we so embarrassed to care about clothes?
With “It’s Great to Be Home,” Ives answers with a resounding… who cares? Passion is the point, dressing up should be fun and sometimes, more really is more.
