Miley Cyrus's "Skunk Under Roots" Hairstyle Is Where 2023 Meets Y2K

This is how you mix the old with the new.

Miley Cyrus spent the end of 2022 slaying us with a musical performance, and as we’re three days into the New Year, we’re still not over her visual slay either — precisely her Y2K-inspired hair moment for the occasion.

The iconic time occurred with Cyrus singing alongside her Godmother, Dolly Parton on New Years’ Eve. While we enjoyed their duets throughout the sets, beauty enthusiasts couldn’t help but get into the hair dye job and style her colorist Cassondra Kaeding served the star. Thanks to her amazing team, we could re-live the moment in an Instagram post. From what we can see Kaeding touched up Cyrus’s platinum blonde roots but went for a dark halo effect underneath for a rocker-chic contrast. The crimped waves took us back to those early ’00s with the skunk-color peeping through, giving us a modern yet nostalgic look.

We may be in 2023, but a period trend from the ’90s and up will always be time and place-appropriate. Let Cyrus be the perfect example of how to blend the old with the new.
