Hard of Hearing Singer Amira Unplugged Lends Her Voice to AT&T's 5G Helmet Commercial
Leveling the playing field for hearing impaired athletes.
A more inclusive world is a better one and AT&T is taking one step forward as it is partnering with Gallaudet University and creative agency Translation to create a 5G helmet for hearing impaired athletes.
To announce the initiative, AT&T tapped Muslim and hard of hearing singer Amira to cover Simon & Garfunkel’s iconic song “The Sound of Silence.” Sharing the commercial on Instagram, she captioned her post, “This is my first national commercial and I got to make an impact as a hard of hearing singer. I am honored to be a part of this incredible project.” The barrier-breaking helmet provides players with in-game visual communication using 5G and augmented reality, literally leveling the playing field. Coaches will be able to share a play with the athlete, which they will then be able to see through the helmet via AR on a digital screen in the visor. “My hope for the innovation is that it becomes more widely accessible,” Jason Campbell, chief creative officer of Translation share with Adweek.
