From the show’s venue to celebrity attendance.
Gucci marked one of the highlights this Fall/Winter 2023 season at Milan Fashion Week, despite being without a creative director ahead of Sabato De Sarno‘s debut in September.
Much like the Italian house’s menswear show last month, the womenswear collection was a celebration of its past creative directors such as Tom Ford and Alessandro Michele. Slim silhouettes from the ’90s made their way onto the catwalk, blending with the more experimentative looks in recent years. The brand revisited some of its iconic elements with the large double-G buckle belt having a moment alongside ’00s-inspired sunglasses, oversized jewelry and more.
Below, we’ve put together a recap of Gucci’s FW23 show at Milan Fashion Week, from the collection’s inspirations to the venue and celebrity attendance. See all of the looks above and rewatch the presentation below.

FW23 was the second season sans Alessandro Michele ahead of Sabato De Sarno’s debut.
Gucci announced the departure of Alessandro Michele in November 2022, following up shortly after to showcase its first-ever show without the former creative director during Milan Fashion Week Men’s last month. This FW23 presentation was the second show and first womenswear collection without Michele as the house prepares to welcome Sabato De Sarno as its new creative director for the Spring/Summer 2024 season in September this year.
The presentation took place in the Gucci Hub.
Gucci welcomed guests to its home base in the Gucci Hub headquarters. Models walked out from elevators into a spacious venue covered in yellow on the floors and walls, with attendees seated in animal-free Demetra seats.
The ’90s and ’00s served as key inspirations.
As seen from some of the garments and accessories, the nostalgia of the ’90s and ’00s inspired Gucci’s design team for FW23. The collection was a celebration of the multiple eras of the house from the 1990s to the 2010s, covering influences from Tom Ford, Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele.
The show opened with a mini crystal-encrusted GG metal bra paired with gloves and a maxi-length skirt, setting the tone as tailored sets and faux-fur coats followed. Sheer tops were a go-to, while the GG logo buckle belt marked its comeback moment on baggy trousers and jeans.
The accessories and footwear game were strong.
We couldn’t take our eyes off the accessories and footwear on the Gucci FW23 runway. There were glossy half-cut leather gloves, G-branded mesh tights and logo-branded earrings and ear cuffs. The rounded trapezoid chain bag was highlighted with the horsebit and showcased in padded, shearling and crystal-embellished designs. Meanwhile, the Jackie bag was reinterpreted in two-tone colors and embossed leather.
In footwear, the Gucci loafer was updated with rubber soles, and snow boots originally created for Gucci’s ski collection in the ’60s made a return with horsebit detailing. Kitten double-G heels were complete with square toes and sandals were inspired by the Dionysus bag.
Celebrities arrived in their best Gucci looks.
Gucci invited stars from all over the world to sit front row at its FW23 presentation. A$AP Rocky showed up in Gucci (literally) from head to toe, donning double G-shaped braids. NewJeans‘ Hanni, who was named the brand’s global ambassador a few months ago, made an appearance, sitting next to Julia Garner and Halle Bailey.
