Gucci Showcases Its First Collection Without Alessandro Michele

The house has yet to announce the next name to fill its creative director position.

Gucci showcased its first collection following Alessandro Michele’s departure. While the fashion crowd anticipated the announcement of its new creative director towards the end of its Fall/Winter 2023 show at Milan Fashion Week Men’s, the house closed its curtains without any designer taking a bow during the finale.

The Italian brand invited guests to the Gucci Hub, where celebrities like Wednesday star Percy Hynes White, Idris Elba, EXO‘s KAI and Jeremy O. Harris (who plays young designer Grégory Duprée in Season 2 of Emily in Paris) sat front row. As explained in the show’s notes, the FW23 menswear collection focused on the beauty of “improvisation” which was reflected in the live performance by Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog at the center of the circular runway.

Deviating from Michele’s experimentation spirit, the collection was filled with wardrobe staples, opening with a simple white tee with wide-legged trousers. The lineup followed with more colored renditions of the pants, along with loose-fitted tops with stretched, deep neck detailing, paired with tailored jackets and coats. Standouts included detachable arms and legs on suits, as well as casual bomber jackets, baggy jeans and striped rugby shirts.

In accessories, Gucci featured scarves that were tied around bag handles and used to patch denim pants. The Jackie bag returned in larger sizes, highlighted with the Piston Lock, which was originally created during the brand’s Tom Ford era. Meanwhile, the Dionysus received a similar treatment with its signature tiger-headed horseshoe buckle accentuating the look. GG-emblazoned garment bags were carried as shoulder bags, while Princetown slippers and motorcycle boots were spotted in the footwear range.
