New at SXSW EDU 2023: An Intimate Evening With The Porn Conversation
Explore porn literacy, unlearn shame, and enjoy all things NSFW.
On March 9, The Porn Conversation, founded by leading ethical porn director Erika Lust will enter the U.S. for the first time at SXSW EDU 2022, in Austin, Texas.
As its exclusive press release reads, “It’s no secret that with the lack of comprehensive sex ed in schools, porn has become the new sex education,” which, for lack of a better term — is f-cked. And as a result, The Porn Conversation teaches and prioritizes porn literacy in sex ed programs.
This year, TPC clinical sexologist and intimacy coordinator Avril Louise Clarke will discuss “Why Porn Literacy Belongs in Sex Ed.” The conversation further’s TPC’s goal of creating a “more educated and alert generation, who are prepared and ready to make better choices about their sexual health; driven by knowledge and not by fear or shame.”
Following the conversation, is “An Intimate Evening with The Porn Conversation” with the participation of sex ed, sex work and LGBTQIA+ rights organizations and activists engaging in a panel
discussion co-hosted with Sex Positive Families and SWEET, Sex Workers Educating and Empowering Texans.
Lust elaborates on the event’s importance: “When we acknowledge porn with a nonjudgmental approach, it becomes easier to open up a shame-free dialogue about it. I hope An Intimate Evening with The Porn Conversation is an opportunity for participants to learn about different experiences within the sex ed and sew work communities, thanks to Sex Positive Families and SWEET who accepted our invite to share their perspectives.”
