It girl-favorite brand Sandy Liang offers a romantic yet slightly gothic Fall/Winter 2023 collection for New York Fashion Week. The queen of balletcore presented an updated take on her familiar whimsical garments, delivering ensembles both Wednesday Addams and Enid would approve of.
Liang stays true to her decidedly feminine vision, while taking unexpected turns. Lilac snoods are paired with a school girl-inspired black mini frock and accessorized with a shaggy purse. White empire waist dresses are made more moody by thin black veils and opaque leg warmers, evoking an air of slightly tainted innocence. Dramatic floor-length blood red gowns are accented by oversized bows, whereas Y2K-esque bubblegum pink jackets bear an ostentatious fur trim. Dainty eyelet midi skirts help the outerwear retain its fragility. More extravagant outfits arrive in the form of a skin-baring lace dress, featuring a cheeky screen print of anime eyes, spliced with an elegant sash across the midriff. The motif makes an additional appearance as a calf-length shift covered by a demure long-line blazer.
Other standouts include a Sailor Moon-esque design, comprised of a simple black turtleneck and mini skirt, emphasized by an eye-catching white pussybow with a pink rosette detailing. Elsewhere, a voluminous chocolate brown mini dress is adorned by the girly knot, while a flirty crimson crop-top juxtaposes a modest aubergine maxi skirt.
