West Contemporary's 'XX' Anniversary Show Features 20 of the UK's Biggest Artists
Spanning street art, sculpture and neon installations.
West Contemporary, formerly known as Beautiful Grime Gallery, is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary and as a result, has tapped 20 of the U.K.’s most exciting artists to collaborate.
Hosting all artists under one group show, the exhibition, dubbed XX, will see a selection of pieces showcased various artistic disciplines, spanning street art, sculpture and everything in between. Amongst those exhibiting is Lauren Baker, dubbed the leading British neon and mixed media artist. Known for her environmental ethos, the artist’s previous installations have been housed at Tate Modern and the V&A.
Building on the gallery’s female line-up, Gabriella Anouk will display a series of her sensual paintings, while Beth Cullen-Kerridge is also set to showcase a selection of her sculptures alongside The Cameron Twins — who are joining XX to exhibit a selection of their mixed media works, spanning screen printing, digital montage, photography, casting and installations.
Elsewhere, the exhibition will play host to the debut of Dan Rawlings, an artist who aims to pay tribute to the world around him through his manipulation of metal and light alongside intricate, hand-plasma cutting techniques. Robi Walters, favorite among the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Mary J Blige, transforms discarded materials into works of art through recycling. Leaning into the gallery’s street art heritage, self-taught, non-conformist artist Fin DAC will also be exhibiting his “Urban Aesthetics” works, defined by his atypical paint spray style.
XX will be on display until April 1st. Take a look at a selection of the works on show above, and head to West Contemporary’s website for more information.
