Barbie Ferreira Reveals the Truth About Why She Left 'Euphoria' After Season 2
“I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend,” she says.
Barbie Ferreira was a fan-favorite on Euphoria. In August 2022, she announced her departure from Euphoria. However, it isn’t until now that we’ve learned the real reason.
“I think it was a mutual decision,” Ferreira said on a recent appearance of the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast. “I think my character who I love so dearly, I don’t think there was a place for her to go. She had run her course, story-wise.”
“I don’t know if it was going to do her justice and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend, you know? ” she said, referencing her character’s stereotype, which is so limiting. “I don’t want to play that and I think think they didn’t want that either. So I would have played her for as long as I was asked to depending on what the material was.”
When she announced her departure from the HBO series over the summer, she kept her message brief. She wrote at the time, “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”
Production for Season 3 of Euphoria reportedly begins in the second half of 2023.
