Grace Wales Bonner Curates MoMa Exhibition
Entitled “Spirit Movers.”
Grace Wales Bonner has had a deservedly quick ascent to the top of the fashion world as her eponymous label’s innovative designs and profoundly thoughtful tailoring has broken boundaries and pushed us to rethink style altogether.
Now, the inimitable English designer is further flexing her creative muscles, providing insight into the inner workings of her mind as she will curate an upcoming exhibition for the Museum of Modern Art’s Artist’s Choice series. Entitled Spirit Movers, the show will explore the artistic practices and experiences present in the African diaspora, demonstrating the richness of Black culture. Featured artists include Agnes Martin, Betye Saar, David, Hammons, Man Ray, Moustapha Dimé and Terry Adkins.
“I hope the exhibition and associated publication resound with the spirit of the contributing artists and continue to conjure new dreams and new visions,” Bonner expressed in a statement. Grace Wales Bonner: Dream in the Rhythm—Visions of Sound and Spirit will be a new catalog specially released for the upcoming exhibition within the MoMA Collection, chronicling 80 works from the museum’s archive, showcasing the multi-sensorial connections between images, poetry, music and physical performances.
