K-Pop Group Weeekly on Girlhood, Touring and New Music

An exclusive conversation celebrating their single release, “Stranger.”

K-pop girl group, Weeekly, is no stranger to the masses. Since the release of their debut EP in 2020, “We Are,” the sextet have amassed over a million listeners globally and topped countless charts. Fans, or Daileees as they’re often referred to, simply can’t get enough of the group’s style, vivacious spirit, and songs that aptly encapsulate girlhood.

Weeekly’s newest single, “Stranger” is an ode to their journey. The warm acoustic guitar and emotionally charged lyrics shed light on Weeekly’s setbacks, pain, dreams, and how they overcame it all thanks to the love from their community. To connect with fans across borders and gear up for their upcoming America tour, they released the track in both English and Korean.

Below we catch up with Weeekly to delve deeper into “Stranger,” the group’s dreams and moments of growth that brought them this far. While you’re here, check out the exclusive “Stranger” music video in english.

“Stranger” refers to the process of growth. What do you find beautiful about the growth in your journey?

Lee Soojin: I think the pain and efforts experienced while growing up are beautiful. We are able to grow one step further in any direction by going through these steps. I think it’s especially beautiful if there are people who go through it together with you.

Zoa: I believe there is a stage of “growth” in any field. Whether it’s the process of preparing an album or maintaining harmonious relationships with people around us, we are always growing, which makes the journey of self-improvement truly beautiful! For me, I will also continue to work hard to be an artist who constantly grows in the future!

Park Soeun: I think growth itself is beautiful. The most significant strength of growth is that positive changes occur within me. While there may be challenges in the process of growth, I believe that it can make us stronger and more resilient.

Lee Jaehee: I believe that experiencing failures and facing challenges is essential for growth. Being mature and becoming a decisive person while reflecting on myself at the same time is a beautiful journey for me.

Do you have any expectations of the future, for both Weeekly and the music industry at large?

Jihan: I hope Weeekly becomes an amazing artist beloved by a large audience. We also desire to perform concerts in large venues! We haven’t yet been listed on music charts or music shows, so we would be extremely grateful if we could achieve good results on music shows and music streaming platforms. We will continue to work hard until the day we achieve great success!

Monday: Our goal and expectation are for our music to be more widely known and to receive great love. We will work hard towards the day when Weeekly’s music is played wherever you go around the world.

Lee Jaehee: We look forward to the moment when our team, Weeekly, becomes even more successful in the future. I anticipate the day when we are engraved as the best group that can bring comfort and happiness to the audience. We will work hard for that moment.

Park Soeun: I am really looking forward to our upcoming and first U.S. Tour. In the future, there are so many things we want to do with our fans, such as fan meetings and concerts and I wish to achieve them one by one!

Besides music, what is your favorite activity to do as a group?

Zoa: Our members have a lot of conversations with each other and spend a lot of time together in our daily lives. Having conversations with each other, going on trips together, and most importantly, communicating with our Daileees are our favorite activities to do.

Lee Soojin: Preparing for comebacks and stages with our members are always enjoyable, but a recent trip with the members was so much more fun. Because of that, I would choose to go on trips with Weeekly members. And in the future, I want to engage in various activities together with the members as well.

Monday: I find every moment with my fellow members precious and enjoyable. Especially a recent trip we went on together for the first time, it was an unforgettable and wonderful memory. I am always grateful to be able to spend good times with my great members.
