Halsey Just Shared the Best Dating Advice
“If I look at my partner and I wouldn’t want to be them… then I probably shouldn’t be with them.”
In a new episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Halsey discusses her engagement with partner Avan Jogia and shares the best dating advice.
“If I look at my partner and I wouldn’t want to be them,” Halsey told host, Alex Cooper, “Then I probably shouldn’t be with them. You should kind of only be spending that amount of time and putting that much time, love, connection and vulnerability into a person if you would be okay becoming them as a result.”
Immediately, Cooper responded: “You’re preaching right now.”
The “Without Me” singer has been quite vulnerable about her love life recently, detailing how far they’ve come. “For a very long time, I was personally an absolute doormat,” she told the interviewer. From executives taking credit for their work to battling life-altering illnesses, the past few years encouraged the 30-year-old singer to revisit the many faces of her career.
What they didn’t expect was to fall in love with a creative — after swearing off of them. ”I’d said no more f-cking entertainers,” Halsey recalled. “I’m gonna find someone and it’s either gonna be the most beautiful pediatric nurse you’ve ever seen in your life or a guy who works in accounting and then when I met Avan, I was like, ‘Fuck. I’m screwed.’”
Where the internet instantly fell in love with the couple, Halsey reveals they were quite skeptical. Specifically wondering if he was a “masochist for dating a sick single mother. However, meeting his parents changed it all.
“I don’t know where I’d be without him. He’s been instrumental in my healing, my recovery, my self-concept. Not just from being sick, but I was still grappling with postpartum depression. I didn’t know how to be a person separate from being a mum. I didn’t feel very autonomous in my body. But he really made me want to try because I liked him so much. It motivated me to work on myself at a time when I desperately needed to.”
