SHUSHU/TONG SS25 Explores "The Pleasure of Rejection"
Inspired by the character of Erika Kohut from the film ‘The Piano Teacher.’
SHUSHU/TONG just presented its Spring/Summer 2025 collection at Shanghai Fashion Week, once again blending the uniqueness of girlhood with contemporary sensuality. Dubbed “The Pleasure of Rejection,” the collection takes inspiration from the character of Erika Kohut from the film The Piano Teacher, drawing on the “complexity, sensitivity, contradiction, and madness” that sits within the inner worlds of women.
Chapter 12 of the book The Conflicts Within Us also serves as inspiration for this season, looking at the symptoms of masochistic tendencies and the struggle between attraction and rejection. “She becomes aware of her desire and capacity to attract people but turns against them with indignation and contempt as soon as they take her advances seriously,” reads the SS25 press release.
The complex emotions are reflected through various layering techniques, blending knitted elements with nude fabrics. Elsewhere, the color palette appears “richer” than in previous seasons, adding hues of navy blue, burgundy and khaki. Glossy polka dots, classic checks and lily prints are merged to reflect added complexities, alongside lace, handcrafted ribbon embroidery and pleating to represent elegance, depth and femininity.
