Dries Van Noten Explores Cinematic Glamour for SS27
Julian Klausner printed invented movie posters onto polos and pinned brooches to just about everything for a collection about getting ready purely for the fun of it.
There’s a particular pleasure in getting dressed for an occasion that isn’t really happening, and Julian Klausner seems to have spent the season thinking about that feeling. His Spring/Summer 2027 collection for Dries Van Noten, presented at Paris Fashion Week, takes its cue from cinema, specifically the image of an actress heading home after wrapping for the day.
Klausner and his team invented films that were never shot and designed posters to promote them, then printed those posters onto polos and slouchy dresses, sometimes layering one over another until the images started to muddle together like a double-exposed shot from a disposable camera. Garments were spliced from different pieces in a cut-and-paste way, so a single look could feel like it had been assembled from three separate wardrobes over the course of a very long day.

Spray-painted flamingos and martini glasses drifted across fabrics with stars scattered in between, and sheer layers and veiling softened the edges of the silhouette. The palette wandered from washed-out neutrals to acid yellow and a bright turquoise; not to mention the odd glint of metallic catching the light.
As for accessories, the jewelery is where the collection had the most fun. Costume pieces and glass beads were piled on, and brooches and charms were stitched to clothes and shoes, giving each look the sense of a character pulled together from a dressing-up box. Traditional footwear includes wooden-heeled pumps, styled alongside oversized hand-held bags and single driving gloves.
