Black singles are reshaping their approach to love, BLK shares. Its latest user behavior and engagement trends study found that Gen Z is seeking deeper, more authentic bonds. In both sexual and romantic relationships, there’s a deeper desire to connect — but how it’s presented is interesting.
BLK’s Head of Brand, Jonathan Kirkland, shared that “Creativity is at the heart” of Gen Z’s connection-building. “With trends like ‘Collabor-dating,’ we’re seeing people bond over shared projects, whether it’s TikTok’s, playlists or content that tells their story. It’s not just about meeting someone; it’s about co-creating something that feels unique to your dynamic. This trend speaks to the way this generation views relationships: as partnerships that inspire and build.”
For 2025, BLK predicts that community will continue to drive dating decisions. “It’s no longer just about finding romance — it’s about finding your people. With trends like ‘Crewsing,’ singles are turning to apps to build social circles, whether it’s for brunch buddies, festival squads or just new besties.” Hobbies are also helping singles maintain connections.
Slow dating is still on the horizon, Kirkland continued. The trend refers to people taking their time to connect, aka being a “slow burn” versus the alternative — love-bombing. “Trends like ‘Slow Dating’ and ‘Offline Only’ reflect a generation that’s rejecting the superficial and doubling down on meaningful interactions. Whether it’s unplugging to have a genuine conversation or taking the time to build something solid, this is a group that values quality over quantity in every aspect of their lives—including relationships.”
