Dear Internet Trolls, Doja Cat's Natural Hair Isn't up for Discussion

The artist’s new album cover has the internet in a frenzy.

Doja Cat is no stranger to making a beauty statement with her bold makeup and hair choices. The artist has wowed us with every kind of look, from long pink tresses to brunette curls and even a bald head. Versatility is the name of the game for the rapper, who recently posted the cover art for her new music on Instagram, which happened to be a zoomed-in photo of her natural hair.

The cover art shows her beautiful, tight, coily blonde 4C curls and internet trolls quickly flooded the now-turned-off comment section with negative comments. This isn’t the first time that she’s become the brunt of jokes and disparaging comments after showcasing a new hair or makeup look to the world.

This time around, the rapper went on Instagram Live to stand up for herself and educate fans and trolls alike on natural hair textures. She starts by explaining that the cover art came about after asking a photographer to take a picture of the top of her head and deciding to enlarge the photo. She continues on to say, “My hair is just 4C and a lot of y’all don’t give a f-uk and that’s good, great. Let it just wiz on by; that’s my hair. [Say] no comment or beautiful, that looks great.”

She then addresses the trolls by adding, “Sure, if you hate me, say some wild sh-t; go for it; it’s a free country.” Explaining that there’s been multiple comments left comparing to her curls to”pubes,” sheep, carpet and popcorn. At the end of the Live, the artist asks for growth from everyone who has left comments and urges the trolls to move on: “We gotta move forward. Let’s move forward. Let’s grow. Let’s stop,” she says.

It goes without saying that Doja Cat’s natural hair is not up for discussion and by addressing her social media haters, she continues a long-standing conversation about the acceptability of natural hair in mainstream media.
