Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Sued by Sexual Wellness Company

Here’s everything we know — including a statement from Goop.

Gwyneth Paltrow‘s sexual wellness brand, Goop, sued for copyright infringement.

Known for her expensive taste in sex toys and *that* vagina-scented candle, Paltrow has made sex news again — and it might cost her. According to Business Insider, the sexual wellness company Good Clean Love Inc. is suing for copyright infringement for the name “GOOD. CLEAN. GOOP.”

The trademark was filed in 2023 and teased the launch of “cosmetics and nutritional supplements.” However, soon Goop began to launch sexual health products under the same umbrella, creating conflict for Good Clean Love Inc.

For those unfamiliar, Paltrow’s Goop is a wellness brand dissecting the latest trends and lifestyle products for women. The brand was founded in 2008, but has grown to be just as famous as its founder, Paltrow. To protect its name and profits, Good Clean Love filed for infringement on March 28 to “prevent the calamitous situation.”

On April 4, a Goop spokesperson reached out with a statement:

Goop does not typically comment on pending litigation, but given the allegations, we’d like it to be clear that we believe this complaint is meritless. The market is saturated with ‘good clean [fill in the blank]‘ named brands. Goop’s ‘good.clean.goop’ is an accessible skincare, body care and wellness line sold at Target and Amazon, and the goop brand is well-known for these products. Thus, we trust consumers to distinguish goop from the plethora of other “good clean” products in the marketplace. We stand behind our products as clean and are proud to have been a pioneer in the clean beauty movement.

Keep reading for quotes from court documents.

Good Clean Love cannot compete with Goop’s market saturation,” the brand wrote in court documents. “The confusion and reverse confusion created by Goop’s use of GOOD. CLEAN. GOOP threatens to foreclose Good Clean Love from expanding into product lines related to its sexual health and wellness products. Good Clean Love’s hard-earned goodwill is at risk of falling into the hands of Goop, the junior user… Without prompt assistance from this Court, Goop’s adoption of the mark GOOD. CLEAN. GOOP threatens to overwhelm the GOOD CLEAN LOVE trademark and undermine Good Clean Love’s two decades of investment in its goodwill and reputation.
