Photographer Tumi Adeleye dives into dating through her latest photo series.

Titled “This Shit For Da Birds” Adeleye’s Tells the story of Koko, an unimpressed woman and “a boy with a few tricks up his sleeve,” she shared. Inspired by personal dating experiences, her skills in portrait photography bring each of love’s phases to life.

Based in Los Angeles – a complex city to date in – Adeleye’s love life led her to revelations about her true self. From finding herself in situationships to vowing to never learn the same lesson twice, each connection is a “new way to learn about myself,” she continued.

“My dating life is somewhat like a novel,” Adeleye told Hypebae. “From the odd, sexy and charming characters hopping in and out of my life like chapters, to my character development as a queer Black woman, the plot writes itself.” Most importantly, “It keeps me busy,” she continued. “Being a source of inspiration into how I share my experience with the world as a visual storyteller and photographer. ”

Merging her expertise in photography and fashion styling with hints of symbolism, “This Shit For Da Birds” creatively expresses the many layers of cultivating Black love.
