What Women Get Wrong About Men, According to Tinder

Tinder’s latest study highlights just how much men and women don’t understand eachother.

Leading dating app Tinder unveils its latest relationship study.

We’ve all heard the saying “don’t assume, because it makes an ass out of you and me.” Well, after surveying over 8,000 users on their dating habits, Tinder found that men and women have more in common than they may think. Titled the “Green Flags” study, it revealed what Tinder calls an “Assumption Epidemic” where people are essentially c-ckblocking themselves.

Dr. Sara Konrath, a social psychologist at Indiana University says, “The Green Flags Study reveals assumptions that young people have about each other.” More specifically, “men and women are misjudging each other’s intentions in stereotypical ways. Such stereotypes can be damaging to relationships. Staying curious and asking questions can help dig beyond the surface and lead to deeper connections.”

Here are the top misconceptions, according to Tinder.

“More than just a hook-up”

Women often assume that men only want sex, Tinder said. “The study reveals that 65% of women believe that men are only seeking casual flings when, in reality, the percentage is less than half of that (29%). Again, another example of assumptions rearing their ugly head. These misunderstood beliefs create specific narratives before one’s finger even hits the screen—making it much harder to see potential matches for what they are: a surplus of possibility.”

“Socially progressive, romantically traditional”

Meet-cutes and other forms of fairytales are all the hype for women, but socially, progressive values are a priority. “This progressively traditional approach to dating has left some men unsure how to proceed,” Tinder shared.

New-age chivalry

Chivalry definitely isn’t dead. “In that similar progressive-to-traditional pipeline, surveyed women say they still appreciate chivalrous gestures, but it’s not the only benchmark anymore… Evolving beyond whether you give up your seat, it’s now about quality time and undivided attention. But men seem to still be holding onto older notions of chivalry taught by earlier generations—and this is where we’re getting stuck.”

“Assumptions are… killing the vibe”

Introducing, the “Dating Traffic Jam,” where you misinterpret a green flag as a red flag and instead, pull out your white flag and dip. “The study also shows that surveyed men may get caught up in judgment stereotypes, with respondents saying they often anticipate that women will focus on factors like height (34%) or job title (31%) when viewing their profiles.” Although “physical traits and career positions help paint a picture of who someone is, these do not appear to be ‘make-or-breaks’ when it comes to who women want to date.”

While you’re here, here’s how to elevate self-pleasure, accoridng to TOC.
