5 Gold Medal-Worthy Couples Competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Those who compete together, stay together?

Where and how do Olympians find love? They say opposites attract, but maybe not when you’re a high-achieving athlete. With their hard-hitting training programs, competitions and commitment to a healthy lifestyle, it only makes sense that they would seek a partner with similar ambitions.

From the adorable USA power couple, Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall, to the romantic proposal of Chinese badminton players, Huang Yaqiong and Liu Yuchen, we round up our favorite lovebirds who are competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall initially met in 2017 at the same track meet in Idaho and safe to say, it was love at first sight. Despite Hunter residing in Utah and Tara in California, they both made their long-distance relationship work. In 2021, the same year they both competed in the Tokyo Olympics, Hunter proposed to Tara. The following year, they tied the knot in McKinney, Texas and this year marks their second time competing together at the Olympics.

Jamaican 400m sprinter Junelle Bromfield and American 100m sprinter Noah Lyles met on social media back in 2017. The pair went on one date that unfortunately fizzled out, so they kept their relationship platonic. However, some things in life require a second chance and that was the case for this couple. In 2021, they ran into one another at the Tokyo Olympics despite both dating other people and in 2022, Lyles broke up with his then-girlfriend and slid into Bromfield’s DMs. Since then, it’s been happily ever after, Bromfield relocated to Lyles’ homebase in Virginia and they train alongside one another.

It’s giving real life Challengers…but without the third. British tennis star, Katie Boulter and Australian tennis player, Alex de Minaur, met in a hotel in 2020 and have since been in a blossoming relationship. This year marks both their Olympic debut together and also their fourth anniversary. Dubbed tennis’ power couple, they celebrated their milestone with an Instagram post (shown above).

What’s better than a gold medal? A diamond ring, a fiancé AND a gold medal. Chinese men’s badminton player, Liu Yuchen proposed to his partner and fellow athlete Huang Yaqiong, immediately after she won gold in the badminton mixed doubles. With a bouquet of flowers still in hand from the awards ceremony, Yuchen dropped to one knee and proposed and Yaqiong tearfully accepted. Now, that’s a story for the grandkids.

Katerina Sniakova and Tomas Machac

This tennis pair began dating in 2020, but announced that they broke up just weeks before the 2024 Olympics at the Prague Open. Despite calling their four-year-long relationship quits, Katerina Sniakova and Tomas Machac are still a power couple in sport after winning gold together in the Olympic mixed doubles. The duo were seen in close embrace after their Olympic win, which has caused some fans to question a potential rekindling.
