Pigmentarium Releases New Architecture-Inspired Scent, "Brutal"
Channeling the Brutalist movement of the ’70s and ’80s.
Czech perfume house Pigmentarium is set to release a brand-new fragrance that evokes the bright spirit of the ’70s and ’80s, dubbed “Brutal.” An ode to the philosophy of Brutalism, a style of British architecture that is meant to embody crudity or minimalism, the scent feels intense and all-encompassing.
Throughout this time period, the Brutalism movement not only made its way into design, but also art, fashion and even film. In fact, the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist is about an architect whose work challenged a traditional notion of beauty and focused on embracing stark utility.
The “Brutal” fragrance unfolds with a rich base of tobacco, bourbon, amber and sandalwood, creating a somewhat smoky foundation. At its heart there are delicate notes of tuberose, ylang ylang and rose de May to round out its floral body. Finally, at the top, “Brutal” is elevated by orange blossom, negroni accord and black coffee.
The scent is the brainchild of French perfumer Théo Belmas, who worked extensively with Pigmentarium’s team to craft a scent that mirrors the essence of geometry, raw material and density. The perfume celebrates functionality over form and is meant to hit your olfactory senses with a top-down approach, inviting you to smell its most powerful notes first.
The Pigmentarium “Brutal” Eau de Parfum will retail for $146 USD and will be available on March 20 on the brand’s website.
