Was Serena Williams' Super Bowl Appearance "Petty?" She Says No

“I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 gold medals) that I simply don’t have time for petty.”

Ah, the saga continues. Kendrick Lamar‘s halftime performance at the 2025 Super Bowl went viral for many reasons. One, he brought out SZA, two, his flare jeans ate – and sold out — and three, he brought out Serena Williams.

Unbeknownst to many, Williams has been publicly dragged for crip walking and honoring her California roots. She also dated Drake almost a decade ago and as many music lovers know, the Toronto singer never got over her.

So, Lamar, King of references, invited the tennis icon to crip walk on stage during his performance. Fans ate it up. But for some reason, Williams’ crip walking at the Super Bowl seemingly offended many men in the industry, including renown sports commentator Stephen A. Smith. Smith seemingly couldn’t understand why the tennis star would “Be up there trolling” her “ex,” Drake.

Well, according to Williams she’s been a little busy, but now she has the time to respond:

“Gosh I’m so late to the game (I’ve been sick) & busy investing in billion dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty,” she shared. “Def not dancing to be petty lol… I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 gold medals) that I simply don’t have time for petty. All love and respect always nothing negative here.”

In other news, Rema releases “Baby (Is It A Crime).”
