Tinashe Opens Up About Finally Reaching Mainstream Success

In a new interview, the multi-hyphenate reflects on her journey.

In a new interview, musician Tinashe opens up about finally making it mainstream.

According to the American multi-hyphenate, the world may see her as mainstream, but she’s not jinxing it. “Yes and no,” she told Marie Claire. “It was really validating to have a quote-unquote hit again.” But is she banking on it? No.

In case you missed the iconic run, Tinashe release her hit single “Nasty” in 2024. The single hit viral status sparking a TikTok dance trend — the highest form of honor at the time — and evolved into a remix rollout featuring Chloe Bailey.

Despite producing quality and buzz-worthy moments, she rarely receives mainstream credit. For example, her 2023 reference to Sex and the City‘s sushi episode — see below. Usually, there’s an end in sight when it comes to hype, but Tinashe’s decades long hustle has truly paid off and led to her ending 2024 on tour.

Now, the artist is crafting a dancewear line of her own, confirming her mainstream introduction. However, she’s still not sold. She explained that it’s nice ”to have everyone talking about me. But at the same time, it’s so fickle, so you can’t put too much on those moments.”

In other news, Selena Gomez teases new music with Gracie Abrams while Rema finally releases that sample of Sade’s “Is It A Crime.”
