How Miley Cyrus Is Defying Music Industry Trends

The star just announced the visual album will premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

Following a highly successful collaboration with Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus announced an upcoming visual album. Less than two weeks later she released two visuals and a teaser confirming that Something Beautiful will defy every trend and expectation. The latest iconic move? Booking a slot at the Tribeca Film Festival to premiere the visual album.

Fans love Cyrus for several reasons, one of which is never succumbing to how others desire her to carry herself (cue the red carpet moment with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth). Her last album, Endless Summer, chronicled this part of her journey leaving the perfect opening for Something Beautiful to reveal her — truly.

On March 17, “Something Beautiful” posters were discovered around the globe, signifying something to come. The grunge posters were cryptic, black and white with “Mileycyrus.com” tagged on the bottom right corner. The website, however, was equally vague, only further building the hype.

On March 31, she released a teaser in archival Thierry Mugler — 1997 to be exact — and fans immediately begged for more. Well, on March 31, the singer released three more buzz-worthy moments. First, the music video for the album’s “Prelude,” the album’s title track visual and lastly, a teaser for her next single “End of the World.” Each moment featured Cyrus either singing or reciting poetry from the soul and blessing listeners with the rifts that have become synonymous with her name.

Typically, musicians space out their releases to give fans time to fall in love with each track and also, build the hype for each new drop. However, the “Hannah Montana” star is ditching the trends of the past and moving at her own pace.

On April 17, the Tribeca Film Festival shared its 2025 schedule. “Miley Cyrus To World Premiere Highly Anticipated Visual Album at the Festival, Followed by an Exclusive Conversation,” the headline stated. Read the full announcement below:

Fueled by fantasy, Something Beautiful is a one-of-a-kind pop opera featuring thirteen original new songs from the Something Beautiful album. Directed and written by Miley Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman, Brendan Walter. Produced by Miley Cyrus, Panos Cosmatos, Nick Spicer, Nate Bolotin, Aram Tertzakian. With Miley Cyrus.

Fans are falling in love with this new level of Cyrus not giving a f-ck and singing their praises via comments. “Happy to see her do whatever the fuck she wants, she’s earned it,” one Redittor shared. “I didn’t expect this at all but this is everything I have wanted from her and more,” reporting their happiness that “She truly will never make the same album twice.” On Youtube, fans sing similar praises: “This is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before, she is a musical genius, absolutely cannot wait for the album.”

Forbes was the first to suspect Cyrus was releasing a visual album in March after discovering her interview with Harper’s Bazaar pointed to a Beyoncé-style rollout. “The visual component of this is driving the sound,” she told the publication at the end of 2024. The Houston icon is most known for her unmatched vocals paired with extremely detailed and moving visuals.

Those who’ve been following her run since Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter may have noticed the star’s evolving signature look, further fueling this theory. For example, Beyoncé’s Renaissance tours have inspired a fashion resurgence laced with metallic garments and Western style. For Cyrus, in just a few months, she’s debuted several punk-adjacent hairstyles and most recently, absolutely ate with baby bangs.

Stay tuned for updates on her new album releasing May 30.
