Don't Worry, MAC's Best-Selling "Studio Fix" Foundation Is Not Going Away
In fact, it’s back and better than ever.
Rumors of MAC’s beloved “Studio Fix” Powder Foundation being discontinued sent makeup artists into a frenzy online but the brand is finally setting the record straight. The cult-favorite product isn’t going away, it’s getting a reformulation.
MAC’s “Studio Fix” Powder Foundation’s major makeover centers around removing the talc in its formula. Talc is used in makeup because of its ability to absorb moisture and allow products to transform skin texture into a more silky and smooth version of itself. The clay-like ingredient itself is not dangerous, but in its natural form, it can sometimes contain asbestos, which is where its potential risk of use lies.
In addition to this reformulation, the brand is extending the cult-favorite item’s range, making it more inclusive. MAC’s “Studio Fix” Powder Foundation is the number one best-selling powder foundation in the United States and is the holder of this record since 1992. In 2024, the brand sold 1.7 million units of “Studio Fix” alone.
“When I started at MAC in the early ’90s, ‘Studio Fix’ Powder was a phenomenon that became one of MAC’s true icons,” Terry Barber, Director of Makeup Artistry, recalled in a press statement. “I never thought it could get any better, but ‘Studio Fix’ Powder Plus Foundation is a major upgrade for artists and consumers who want all-in-one results. The finish creates a new type of matte skin that’s soft-focus, smooth and devoid of any powdery residue.”
Mac Cosmetics’ “Studio Fix” Powder Foundation retails for $39 USD and is now available on the brand’s website.
