Shein and Temu Forced To Raise Prices Due to Tariffs
Reminding U.S. citizens that tariffs fall on the consumer and not the corporation.
According to a report by CNN, Trump’s tariffs have led to price hikes for Chinese-based fast fashion retailers like Shein and Temu.
If you ask Gen Zers why they shop at fast fashion retailers, despite unsustainable practices, you’ll most likely hear concerns about remaining on trend, but, with minimal cost. Fast fashion, nine times out of ten, means cheaper prices. Until Trump, that was.
CNN reports that “businesses will either have to pay a 120% tariff or a flat $100 USD fee per postal item. Come June 1, the flat fee will increase to $200 USD.” For example, “on Shein, a bathing suit set cost $4.39 USD on Thursday; on Friday it cost $8.39 USD,” marking “a 91% increase.” As economists have shared, the responsibility of tariffs falls on the consumer, hence the extravagant price hikes.
The price hike immediately caused mayhem on social media. Check out reactions below.
The dumbest motherfuckers on the planet, Trump supporters, are finding out that their sociopath cult leader has screwed them over with the largest single tax hike in American history. When it’s too expensive to shop at Temu, you know you’re royally fucked. Trump did this. 😂🤣👇 pic.twitter.com/5yWhnsLUrD

Come on Temu, SHEIN, and Alibaba don’t call them Import Charges on the receipt. Americans need you to connect the dots for them. Change it to the “Trump Tariff Tax” and let them know whose fault it is that their purchase is doubling. @shoptemu @SHEIN_Official @AlibabaGroup
